Every enterprise needs to consider the legislation and rules of land while starting the business. In India, a major law regulating various aspects of a company is the Companies Act, 1956. Other important legislation that should be known to enterprises are Indian Contracts Act, 1872, the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act 1951; Trade Unions Act; the Competition Act, 2002; the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996; the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999; laws relating to intellectual property rights; and laws relating to labour welfare.

  • India Code – The Government’s database of various laws. It contains all Central Acts of Parliament right from 1836 onwards. Each Act includes: Short Title, Enactment Date, Sections, Schedule and also Foot notes.
